Review: XV by Lana Sky

XV by Lana Sky
Series: War of Roses, book 1
dark, mafia romance

Publisher: self published
Publication Date: May 14, 2019
Rating: ★★★ 1/2

*This story contains triggers that might be upsetting to readers.

So I will be very vague because I went in knowing nothing at all and honestly this story needs to be read with minimal information.

I am rooting like hell for Ellen. I think she is incredible and really I just want her to burn every man who has wronged her to the ground. I need to see her destroy some men, okay? Just let me have this. I think she was too conditioned by her trauma and it’ll take a long time for her to come out of this. I have full faith in her though.

I have extreme mixed feelings about Mischa. I understand his need for revenge, I even understand his feral nature. But none of that excuses his actions right now. I do see glimpses of humanity and guilt inside of him and I’m holding out hope for that.

This story has been written with incredible finesse. I have always admired Lana’s writing. Her books are like psychological warfare and they scare and excite me to no end.

Mistaken for her beautiful half-sister, Ellen Winthorp is taken captive by a madman who declares that she will be his “fifteen”: the fifteenth victim of a vicious mafia blood feud. Armed with only her instincts, Ellen must resist her captor for as long as she can—which is easier said than done the more she’s exposed to the complex man beneath the beast.

Because Mischa Stepanov isn’t a mindless monster—he’s a wolf, and she’s the unwitting doe caught in his midst.

Unraveling the torment of his past may be her only hope of salvation…

Or the secrets uncovered may destroy them both.
