Title: CAN YOU HEAR IT
Author: Casey Diam
Genre: Sports Romance

About Can You Hear It:

Secrets.
Deceptions.
Tragedies.
Those were the root of all evil. One of those became the root of mine the day I lost the love of my life. My best friend. My lover.
Everyone disregarded it, saying, “Let’s face it, Averie, you have the rest of your life ahead of you.” They were wrong. James Lawrence was my ever after . . . until Ashton.
If only he didn’t come bearing his own brand of evil.
A secret.
The reason he wanted me to stay away.
I should have listened, and he should have tried harder, but both of us failed. And if we hadn’t, if he had told me when we first met, would it have altered the moment I realized that I was falling for him?
The slight variation in the air. The hitch in my breath. The lightness in my chest.
Impossible to know; I’d already fallen.
I was already ruined.

***A standalone sports romance that takes place in senior year high school. Due to explicit content, this book is suitable for 17+

“What are you two doing over here?” He sniffed the air. “Mm-hm. What are you smoking?”

“Nothing,” Nicky said, lifting the joint to her lips.

“Are you up to sharing?”

As Nicky thought about that, I caught sight of Ash, bumping his fist with a few guys as he made his way to a spot around the fire.

“I only share with my boyfriend and Averie.”

“How about this, I’ll let you have a sip of my alcohol if you share with me, although I’ll have to squirt it in your mouth.”

My attention snapped to Ryker as my eyes widened. What did he just say?

“By the look on Averie’s face, I’m not hearing things? You did hear me say I had a boyfriend, right?”

“My alcohol.” He lifted the bottle in his hand as his eyebrows jerked playfully. “I don’t like to share with girls I’m not kissing, and since we won’t be kissing . . . the other option would be for me to squirt it into their mouths, your mouth. Easiest way to get a taste, unless you have other ideas?”

Either I had the dirtiest mind or . . . Nicky cocked her head, a look of interest replacing her previous annoyance. “How’s your aim?”

My head slanted as I glanced at Ryker for an answer. A smug grin moved across his lips. “Open up and I’ll show you.”

I looked at Nicky, who was actually opening her mouth for Ryker.

Oh, God. What is happening?

I did not belong here.

In this spot.

In this conversation.

“I’m going to go . . . do . . . something,” I muttered, making my way over to Ash. He was sitting around the bonfire on one of those nifty camp chairs most of the group seemed to have brought with them.

My steps slowed as I approached him from the side. “Hey.”

His head turned, and he smiled when he saw me. “Hey, how long have you been here?”
“Not long.”

“Where are you sitting?”

“Nowhere in particular. I guess I didn’t get the memo about chairs,” I said, poking the arm of his chair.
