Rating: ★★★★✰

Every Emma Scott book that I read takes me through an intense emotional ride and I am left feeling wanting more.

Thea Hughes life is limited to mere 5 minutes. She lives those 5 minutes as if they form the entirety of her life. Jim Whelan has gone through too much for one life. He fights everyday like a battle.

When these two meet, sparks fly. Neither was expecting the other but still the found love. But Thea’s one decision can change the entire course of their life. Will it be for better or worse?

I just wanted to hug Thea and Jim super tight and never let go. These are two souls who have suffered so much but still and living everyday. I love these two so much.

I adore Jim and how hard he worked towards moving on from his terrible past. He just needs someone to give him a little nudge and that came in the form of Thea. While reading, I definitely felt that Thea and Jim completed each other but at some moments I felt there was something tiny thing missing. I still really love these fools. They stole my heart.

I love that this story hit most of the emotional points for me. I knew it would not be an easy ride for Thea and Jim. In fact, I kinda wanted more angst. But at the end it was a feel good book that leaves you with a sense of peace.

As always, Emma’s writing is poetic. I adore her words and eagerly wait for more.

4 Stars!

a five-minute life

Synopsis:
Thea Hughes has five minutes to live.

A car accident stole her parents and left her with the second-worst documented case of amnesia in the world. She now has only minutes of experiences, of consciousness, of life…before her memory is wiped clean. The once effervescent artist with a promising future is reduced to scribbling with pens and paper, living an empty, quiet life, three hundred seconds at a time.

Jim Whelan is on autopilot.

A foster kid shuffled around the system since birth, he’s lived his entire life without knowing love…and it’s taken its toll—until he learned to fight back, carry his armor, and keep his head down.

Working as an orderly in the Blue Ridge Sanitarium, deep in Virginia countryside, Jim looked up…and found Thea.

When Thea has the chance to break free of her five-minute prison with a risky, experimental surgery, it could lead them both to an epic love they never thought possible… or one that could require the ultimate sacrifice.

A stand-alone, new adult romance.
