I single-handedly built the hottest website for dating and relationship advice. Got a question? Scarlet Rocket can answer it for you. I was your modern day agony aunt with the solutions to all your pesky personal problems. The only issue? I was actually a man named Willis Halloran, not the female Scarlet Rocket. I thought my secret was safe. But then a sexy con artist calling herself Scarlet Rocket began showing up at society events, pretending to be me. I couldn’t let it go, so I tracked her down and confronted her. It went well … except for the part where she stole my wallet. Oh, and the part where she conned my agent into having us work together. And after that? Let’s just say she wound up stealing something much more valuable than my wallet or my [fake] name.

I’m just going to start off by saying I had mixed feelings about this book for a majority of the first half. I was struggling to connect with the story. I was really questioning whether I was going to be able to finish it at all. But I did, and I’m glad I stuck with it.
I quickly realized why I had a strong aversion to it at first…I didn’t like “Scarlet” one bit. No love for her. None. Nada. I found her to be rude to Willis upon first meeting him (and many, many times after), and she just downright blew him off, acting like she was doing nothing wrong. She was messing with someone’s career, their livelihood, but all she cared about was what others could do for her. Or more like, what their possessions could do for her. Totally not cool, “Scarlet”.
And Willis! My goodness…he is the epitome of a nerdy, and sexy alpha male, wrapped up with an introverted, broody, and rugged demeanor. How he handled “Scarlet” and what she did to him right off the bat, were two completely polar-opposite reactions. I fell in love with him completely, and was ready to throw down with “Scarlet” to protect my Clark Kent! Seriously, Willis made black-framed glasses smoking HOT!!
But as the story progressed, I learned more about WHY “Scarlet” was doing what she was doing, and what her true motivation was behind her cons. And the more I learned, the more the thick ice around my cold heart started to chip away for her, and the dire situation she was in. And there was Willis, the entire time, trying to break through “Scarlet’s” tough exterior and truly get to know the woman behind the mask. And their shared moments of vulnerability and desires utterly melted me completely.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I finally came around and saw and FELT the powerful connection these two characters shared. I only wish it hadn’t taken me so long to start thinking with my heart instead of my head!
4 Stars!
