Review: A WAR LIKE OURS by Saffron A. Kent

I would give it a hundred thousand stars and I don’t care if that’s not possible!!

James Alexander Maxwell is in deep shit. Three weeks ago his wife died and instead of doing the right thing, he lied to his daughter and whisked her away to a resort. His lies are choking him but the truth will wrench his daughter way from him. He can’t take the heartbreak that’ll eventually come so he copes the only way he knows. What he didn’t anticipate was the enticing Maddison, who’ll tempt him to sin. Now he has all these messed up thoughts about her that he can’t even fully admit to himself.

Maddison Smith is broken beyond repair. Witnessing her mother’s brutal death at the hands of her step father and the events that followed shattered her. Now she is working at a dead end job and is severely bitter towards men. But the minute she sees James, she feels what she hasn’t felt for a man in a long time; Attraction. She tempts him at every turn even though she sees the darkness lurking behind his eyes. On one hand, she wants to save his girl from him. On the other hand, she wants to be a part of his dark messed up World.

Their guilt, hatred and blinding attraction has the power to break up but they have no intentions to stop. When Love seems like the enemy, what would you fight for?

Have you ever read a book that, after you finished reading, was forever branded on your soul? A War Like Ours is that book for me. I had lost all concept of reality while reading this and I didn’t even care. I am so in love with this book that I wish I could erase my memory and read it all over again. The story was brilliant, the character, though so so broken, are probably one of the best written character I’ve read.

My heart hurts for both Maddison and James. Specially James, my twisted broken sweet man!!! *sobs* I have this fierce need to hug him and tell him that he is too pure for this cruel World. My heart is James’ and forever will be.

Saffron A Kent is a ROCKSTAR!!!! I cannot freaking believe her, y’all! Like how can anyone write such a transcending story and not be a unicorn or a wizard? I am so pumped up to read her future words and she’s already a favourite. FOREVER!!!!

5 Stars!

Synopsis:
A liar…

Three weeks ago, James Maxwell’s wife died in a car accident, but he hasn’t been able to tell his five-year old daughter the heartbreaking truth behind her mother’s death. Instead, he packs them up and leaves for a summer resort in upstate New York to spend a few peaceful weeks and to gradually break the news. But a spirited and outspoken maid at the resort has figured out his secret.

A hater…

After witnessing her mother’s violent death at the hands of her stepfather, Madison Smith has turned aimless and bitter toward the world—men, in particular. Her dead-end job at the local resort and her convenient girlfriend barely keep Madison from falling apart. When she meets James, however, she’s driven to protect his child from the darkness she sees inside him.

A forbidden kiss…

But Madison doesn’t expect to find that very darkness irresistible. Drowning in guilt and memories, neither does James expect to be drawn to the sharp-witted woman who has made his life miserable. When their tempers flare, a brutal kiss triggers a need that blurs the lines of hate and desire. As their lust spins out of control, they must decide if their attraction is worth fighting for or if love is the real enemy.

**Author’s Note: This book is intended for mature audience. It has trigger elements: Abuse, self harm, death. 18+ ONLY. Despite having an HEA, this story doesn’t follow the usual or conventional rules. It’s rough, edgy and yes, difficult to read in places. The characters are broken and jagged and so is their descent in love. Please proceed with caution. Thank you!
